With-profits endowments could be your loss

Article Abstract:

With-profits endowment policies have traditionally been seen as a low-risk form of investment. They are almost totally controlled by the investment manager, with the policy-holder having very little say in how the money is invested. With-profits policies do not offer much flexibility, especially as there can be heavy penalties for ceasing to make premium payments before the end of the term. These policies are also associated with high costs, and these factors make their future uncertain.

A long view to the past

Article Abstract:

Gilts, or UK government bonds, offer both income and capital returns that are guaranteed in cash terms, as long as they are held until maturity. When inflation does not increase, bonds are safe investment destinations, and when inflation falls they could also produce capital gains.
