'You have to fit in with the laddish mentality, or lose out.' (sexual harassment at United Kingdom law firms)(City +)

Article Abstract:

It has so far proved very difficult to eliminate sexual harassment and discrimination within UK law firms. Many female law graduates still expect to encounter sexism in their careers, and a male-dominated culture still prevails throughout the profession. In many cases, female lawyers feel under strong pressure to fit in with this culture in order to secure career progression. They may feel obliged to go out drinking with male colleagues, for example, or to work late.

Can't take the stress, M'Lud

Article Abstract:

It has become common in the UK for lawyers to suffer very high stress levels. Leading law firms are experiencing very high turnover rates as lawyers find that they can no longer cope with working under great pressure. Some lawyers are turning to drugs or alcohol. There are particularly high stress levels among assistant lawyers, who have only limited control over their working environment. Research indicates that many lawyers would be prepared to forego part of their salary if they could work fewer hours.
