'You're through to Talk Radio....'

Article Abstract:

Talk Radio is based on extensive interaction with listeners. It seeks their views, and aims to become an integral part of their lives. However, it has not proved a commercial success, and when it was purchased in Nov 1998 for 24.7 million pounds sterling by a consortium headed by Kelvin MacKenzie was making losses of 1 million pounds sterling a month. Its agenda is determined by items of news and by what the presenters believe the listeners will want to talk about, and it has no music, cultural debate or drama and very few features. MacKenzie would like to increase listener numbers, but is aware that making significant changes would initially deter some listeners.

Last battle for jaw-jutting, ass-kicking, inexhaustible Commander Ashdown

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom Liberal Democrat leader, Paddy Ashdown, is campaigning for his party in the European elections, after which he is to resign his post as party leader. He talks about war crimes in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, though his official subject is UK transportation policy. Ashdown is similar to an old soldier who departs from the battle field. He shows his old war wounds during a visit to a Clinical Skills Center. Meanwhile, the press seek information on what he is to devote his time to after he leaves his post.
