A Day in the Life of a Topflight Lab

Article Abstract:

An inside look at a chemical engineering laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is presented. The head of the lab, Robert Langer, has 20 postdoctoral researchers under him. His lab is likened to a $3-$5 million company, with the postdoctoral fellows and senior graduate students as overseers. Many of the postdocs impose 12-hour work days and weekend work on themselves.
