Which Way to the Big Bang?

Article Abstract:

Physicist Alan Guth speculated that the Big Bang was started by a mechanism he called inflation which started the expansion of the universe. While the theory has many adherents, there are competing theories and models of how inflation actual happened and there is no proof that inflation is correct. Various other models are discussed.

Does Science Know the Vital Statistics of the Cosmos?

Article Abstract:

Cosmologists Michael Turner and James Peebles debated the importance of discoveries of background energy in empty space at the National Museum of Natural History in Oct 1998. Turner argued that the basic questions of cosmology have been answered. Peebles took a more pessimistic approach and argued for caution.
