A dynamic technology strategy for Xerox to respond to the threat of high-tech commodization

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to demonstrate how Xerox, a dominant player in the high-tech copier market, should respond to the threat of commodization in copiers. Commodization entails drastic change in the manufacturers, providers and distributors of a product, resulting in substantial changes in the dominant company's revenues, profits and market share. The results shows that Xerox can respond to the threat in one of four key strategies, namely radical change, steady maintenance, moderate niche market and moderate technical innovation.
