Lead concentrations and isotopic ratios in the sediments of the sea of Galilee

Article Abstract:

The chronology of the Sea of Galilee is compared to levels of lead in soil samples from different depths of the sea bed. Lead samples show a gradual rise in lead levels since 1920, with abrupt changes during different events such as the drying out of the Hula Swamp. Lead concentration statistics are prepared chronologically in charts and graphs.

A quantitative relationship that demonstrates mercury methylation rates in marine sediments are based on the community composition and activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria

Article Abstract:

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and sulfate reduction rates (SRR) are measured in saltmarsh sediments to estimate mercury methylation rates (MMR). Methylmercury production is graphed in relation to the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria to show a general correlation.

Mercury accumulation rates and spatial patterns in lake sediments from West Greenland: a coast to ice margin transect

Article Abstract:

The study examines sediments from 21 lakes in the Arctic ranging from the coast of the ice sheet margin in the Sondre Stromford area, for the determination of transport of contaminants, such as mercury. These contaminants are from the industrial areas located at lower latitudes.
