AIDS pathogenesis: a finite immune response to blame?

Article Abstract:

Steven Wolinsky tested some theories of the differing AIDS progression rates in HIV-positive patients. Experiments refuted the notion that increasing antiviral diversity weakens the immune system. A strong HIV-1 specific cytotoxic T cell immune response correlated with slow disease progression.

HIV-2 and natural protection against HIV-1 infection

Article Abstract:

Karen Travers et al concluded from a study of female Senegal sex workers that infection with HIV-2 provided natural protection against infection with HIV-1, an apparently more virulent strain. However, procedural issues involving sampling may have introduced bias into the study.

Envelope V2 configuration and HIV-1 phenotype: clarification

Article Abstract:

Follow-up research indicates that elongated V2 domains on human immunodeficiency viruses are not likely to be a marker for future development of syncytium-inducing viruses. This finding contradicts a previous study.
