Accident clouds U.S. future on Mir

Article Abstract:

The Jun 1997 collision of a Russian cargo module with the Mir space station may jeopardize the future of the Mir project as well as future Russian-US space collaborations. Congress members are pressuring NASA administrator Dan Goldin to ensure Mir meets US safety standards before sending other US astronauts to the space station.

Pace of NASA change worries advisers

Article Abstract:

There is internal disagreement at NASA concerning a plan to close some facilities as part of a program to cut costs. NASA's budget is expected to drop drastically, and many changes will be necessary. Academic space scientists feel they are being left out of the planning process.
