Acquisition of technological knowledge in small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in Sweden

Article Abstract:

A survey of 509 small and medium manufacturing enterprises in Sweden reveals the existence of six techniques for acquiring technical knowledge. The strategies include technologies coming from research institutes, local sources, suppliers, customers, business and technology advisors and a mixture of the various techniques. The strategy for each firm, which can vary depending on the size of the organization, is becoming critical with the advent of the global economy.

Use of taxonomies to assess manufacturing strategies

Article Abstract:

Researchers have long deliberated on the existence of a set of manufacturing strategies for successful corporate performance. A study of several large Australian corporations reveals that there are programs and activities which have resulted in superior operational performance. Several taxonomies which separate the manufacturing business units into strategic groups are derived.

The future of manufacturing in highly-industrialized countries: a European view

Article Abstract:

Manufacturing industries in industrialized countries face an uncertain future. Business strategies adopted by these industries have not been successful in alleviating this uncertainty. Using environmentally-friendly technologies and efficient tapping of the human resource potential may address the uncertainty.
