Aerosol deposition in bends with turbulent flow

Article Abstract:

Flow Reynolds number creates a slight impact on the deposition of aerosol in bends with turbulent flow. Aerosol penetration yielded changes not more than 5% when Reynolds number was allowed to set between 3200 and 19800. A correlation model that is effective for Stokes numbers ranging from 0.07 to 1.2, for bend angles ranging from 45 to 180 degrees, and for curvature ratios ranging from 2 to 10 was formulated to forecast aerosol penetration.

Effects of non-equilibrium hygroscopic growth of (NH4)2SO4 on dry deposition to water surfaces

Article Abstract:

Model results revealed that growth of hygroscopic aerosols near water surfaces enhances their dry deposition to water surfaces. Particles of (NH4)2SO4 greater than 0.1 micronm in diameter did not grow to their equilibrium size before depositing to a hypothetical water surface. Equilibrium models have overpredicted the effects of hygroscopic growth on deposition velocities by as much as a factor of 5.
