Engineers study bomb vulnerability of flat-slab construction

Article Abstract:

Researchers have built a four-story, flat-slab building in White Sands, NM, that is being subjected to different explosive tests as part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's full-scale blast mitigation program. The tests could help engineers to better design and retrofit structures that can withstand terrorist attacks and protect people within. Flat-slab construction is typically used for building office structures in metropolitan areas.
