An intriguing new lead on Huntington's Disease

Article Abstract:

Duke University Medical Research Center researchers have identified a protein that interacts with huntintin, a protein implicated in Huntington's disease. The newly identified protein, called glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, is a key enzyme in glycolysis, the pathway cells use to convert glucose to energy.

Torsten Wiesel faces the problems of a budget deficit and faculty opposition to change in his role as president of Rockefeller University. Wiesel's conciliatory manner may help him to succeed where his more confrontational predecessor, David Baltimore, failed.

Neurons put the uncertainty into reaction times

Article Abstract:

A need to reach a threshold of neuronal signals may account for the fact that reaction times vary in a way that seems deliberately randomized. A study of the frontal eye field of the brain found that each individual neuron has its own threshold.
