Analysis of cone pressuremeter tests in sands

Article Abstract:

The design parameters in sands were determined using the cone pressuremeter. Results were interpreted by employing a theory that incorporates the major aspects of sand behavior around an expanding cavity. Results show that the cone pressuremeter and the theory may be effectively applied for friction angle and initial state parameter estimation. Additional efforts, however, should be conducted to ensure that test data differences are caused by soil behavior and not test procedures and equipment properties.

Drained sand behavior in axisymmetric tests at high pressures

Article Abstract:

Axisymmetric tests at high pressures were conducted to analyze drained sand behavior. The isotropic compression test involves the use of the general compressibility equation for soils and was applied to dense Cambria sand. Two different curve-fitting equations were employed to model the first and second mechanical phases of loading before the general crushing of particles.

Limit analysis versus limit equilibrium for slope stability

Article Abstract:

Lower and upper bound results are presented for limit analysis of plasticity of simple slopes, and their applicability in assessing limit equilibrium analysis accuracy is discussed. Subjects include adjustments for cohesive slopes and cohesive slopes with circular slip surfaces.
