Back to bacteria: a more natural filtration

Article Abstract:

The biofilm process of water treatment is an efficient method for making drinking water biologically stable. The process ensures safety, maintains the quality of water, and is an alternative to the use of large quantities of chlorine. Biofilms are layered bacteria aggregate adhering to solid rock, gravel, or sand surfaces. When water is passed through the biofilm, the instability components of water are removed, leaving the water biologically stable and enabling the benign bacteria biofilm to grow.

Tracking a serial filter

Article Abstract:

Extreme high-rate serial-filtration processes may be a cost-effective alternative to current wastewater treatment programs. The process uses a course roughing filter to provide flocculation and clarification pretreatment, followed by filtration through polishing filters. A recent pilot test program in Humboldt Bay, CA indicated the process effectively treated water turbidities and met serial filtration requirements.

From pikes peak to mars

Article Abstract:

This article dwells on water conservation and reuse of waste water in the light of diminishing water supply sources. Water from sinks and shower wastes is treated and cleaned-up for reuse in arid regions and in space using a technology being developed at the Pikes Peak Laboratory, Colorado.
