Fundamental science in post-Cold War era

Article Abstract:

The current decline of science in the former Soviet union and the US is partially a fallout of the end of the Cold War. The end of the Cold War has made society re-evaluate the role of science. The biggest gainer in the Cold War era was defence-related fundamental science research. The cutting down of the scientific spending in the former Soviet Union is due to financial crisis and decline of global competitiveness with the US.
