Broken dreamtime: will the koala go the way of the dodo?

Article Abstract:

The habitat of the Australian koala, which is already threatened by a wave of development, was severely curtailed by wildfires in 1994. The Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) reports that the koala population has fallen from 400,000 to less than 80,000 in the past ten years.

Issues concerning the great number of patents issues by the United States patent office for medical products involving nitric oxide are discussed. Particular attention is given to the discovery that hemoglobin produces, and does not destroy, nitric oxide.
