Business culture and the practice of technology management

Article Abstract:

The technology management tools and techniques used at Hughes Electronics Corp. are investigated to examine the impact of company culture on technology management. Four classes of technology management techniques are analyzed: universal approaches, approaches working especially well in Hughes, approaches that are desirable to implement but hard to make effective in Hughes' corporate culture, and approaches that are not applicable in Hughes but have proven to be successful in other organizations. The technology strategy and management techniques to be used depends on the nature of a company's products and markets and its history and individual business culture.
