The Internet offers many informative sites for gardeners and horticulturists, including the Flowering Plant Gateway at Texas A & M University. The gateway is organized mainly by plant classification and gathers information from 17 data bases while offering over 2,500 links for almost 400 flowering plant families. Contributors to the gateway hope it will become the premier site for taxonomy and nomenclature. Sites for botanical news, orchids, and the U.S. Forestry Service can also be found on the Internet.

The combination of audio and video conferencing, distributed database access, ISDN/ATM networking and application-sharing software enable connectivity for collaborative working to be achieved. Many companies are working in this new way of collaboration and partnership. This approach is being implemented in the automative, aerospace, petro-chemical and software industry. The present cost of design projects is about 30 pounds/hour.
