Cell density-dependent adaptation of Pseudomonas putida to biodegradation of p-Nitrophenol

Article Abstract:

The state of interrupted growth on p-nitrophenol (PNP) is discussed. Experiments involved the maintenance of the total population of the Pseudomonas putida while the volume of the culture fluid was varied. Hydroquinone was added along with PNP to the cultures. It was found that the accumulation of one of the metabolic intermediates is necessary for the induction of the appropriate enzymes in the degradation of the PNP.

Simultaneous biodegradation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene and 2,6-dinitrotoluene in an aerobic fluidized-bed biofilm reactor

Article Abstract:

Concurrent biodegradation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene and 2,6-dinitrotoluene (DNT) remains possible through utilization of an aerobic fluidized-bed biofilm reactor (FBBR). FBBR installed with 2,4- and 2,6-dinitrotoluene were able to achieve high removal afficiencies and produce nitrogen containing nitrite-oxidizing bacteria. Evaluation of the reactor effluent showed that full mineralization of the DNT has taken place.
