Chemical and physical characterization of a TiO2-coated fiber optic cable reactor

Article Abstract:

Previous studies have confirmed the effectiveness of optical fiber reactors for studying the photocatalytic degradation of certain chemical compounds. Herein, a novel optical fiber cable reactor lined with titanium dioxide is shown to serve as an efficient and effective tool for the remediation of chemical wastes. Data suggests that the diameter of the optical fibers, which determine light propagation and light absorption, influences photochemical quantum efficiency.

Kinetics and mechanism of the sonolytic degradation of CCl4: intermediates and byproducts

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the kinetics and mechanism of the ultrasonic irradiation of CCl4 in aqueous solution. Of primary interest were the CL- balance, reaction intermediates and reaction byproducts. The influence of ozone and p-nitrophenol on CCl4 degradation was also investigated. The p-NP sonolytic degradation rate was apparently enhanced by the presence of hypochlorous acid which is the result of CCl4 sonolysis.

Sonochemical degradation of p-nitrophenol in a parallel-plate near-field acoustical processor

Article Abstract:

Sonochemical reactors were used to examine the degradation of p-nitrophenol in a near-field acoustical processor (NAP). A mathematical model was used to compute for the pseudo-first-order rate constant from kinetic data. The results suggested that NAP is a more effective approach in industrial processes than conventional probe-type reactors.
