Accumulation of atmospheric and sedimentary PCBs and toxaphene in a Lake Michigan food web

Article Abstract:

Samples of food web members, organic matter, sediment, and seston are taken from Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan and studied for polychlorinated biphenyls and toxaphene levels by correlating stable isotropes of nitrogen and carbon. Concentrations of pollutants are charted for different species from the food chain, showing that primary sources of contamination are seston and settling particulate matter.
