Exhaust emissions from engines of the Detroit Diesel Corporation in transit buses: a decade of trends

Article Abstract:

The Detroit Diesel Corporation produces two popular diesel fuel engines that have been used in a case-study. The study examines emissions data from two transportable chassis dynamometer laboratories formed and run by the West Virginia University. A subset of this information on heavy-duty vehicles, including buses, has been used for the last seven years.

EPA draft almost doubles safe dose of perchlorate in water

Article Abstract:

The EPA is considering raising the levels of perchlorate concentration in drinking water. Perchlorate is in the ground water of 13 states. The chemical was used in 44 states. The study has been criticized for ignoring children. Perchlorate, which is used in rocket fuel, is known to interfere with the thyroid gland, which helps regulate hormones. The study is also criticized because many areas have not been tested for perchlorate. The new, higher levels would mean that waters with low-level contamination in arid parts of the southwest would be considered safe.
