Fomenting a Revolution, in Miniature

Article Abstract:

Micro-electromechanical systems are miniature scientific devices that can make observations and act on them. They are poised to become a defining technology of the future, but their surveillance potential raises privacy and ethical concerns. An overview of the technology is presented.

Apomixis: the asexual revolution

Article Abstract:

Some flowering plants, or angiosperms, may propagate by apomixis, asexual reproduction through seed, when the plant's sexual life-cycle is disrupted. Over 40 angiospern families experience recurring apomixis. An understanding an control of the process could be a boon to agriculture.
