Dam modifications begin in Sacramento

Article Abstract:

The second of three projects aimed at reducing the risk of flooding in and around Sacramento, California is described where in September 2004, construction crews began modifications to Folsom Dam that would increase the capacity of the reservoir. The projects were developed in response to an untoward event that occurred in 1986 when rain swelled the American River and the reservoir and forced releases from the dam that exceeded the safety margins established by the corps.
