Development of constitutive relationships using compression testing of a medium carbon steel

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the stresses and strains present in the hot deformation of a 0.34% carbon steel is given. The study uses cylindrical specimens with a height of 12 mm and a diameter of 10 mm. The specimens are put in a furnace at 1175 degrees Centigrade and quenched in water after 30 minutes. The heated steel rods are then subjected to compression tests with a Gleeble 1500 machine. Results show that the parameters Q, n, Ln (A) decreased when the strain is increased. The data obtained could be described by a single hyperbolic-sine function.

Effect of oxygen content on the processing maps for hot deformation of OFHC copper

Article Abstract:

The hot deformation of high purity oxygen free high conductivity (OFHC) copper is developed in the temperature range 600-950 degree Celsius and strain rate range 0.001-100 s(super -1). At strain rate in the range 1-100 s(super -1) and temperatures >700 degree Celsius, the apparent activation energy is 73 KJ/mole suggesting that dynamic recrystallization (DRX) is controlled by grain boundary self-diffusion and this domain expands with higher oxygen content in OFHC copper.

Growth and ordering of Si-Ge quantum dots on strain patterned substrates

Article Abstract:

The effect of spatially varying mismatch strain-fields on the growth and ordering of quantum dots is examined. Rows of dots in region of low mismatch are formed by one-dimensional strain modulations while two-dimensional strain modulations provide excellent ordering within the island array.
