Seeking Ligands for Lonely Orphan Receptors

Article Abstract:

Cells adapt to physiological and toxicological changes by using nuclear receptors. These receptors bind to molecules and starts changes in gene transcription. The remaining receptors that have not been identified are called orphan nuclear receptors, and identifying ligands for them is a challenge, but the pharmaceutical industry is willing to study the problem.

Hormone mimicry

Article Abstract:

Researchers have discovered that small peptides can mimic large polypeptide hormones. The scientists have isolated a 20-amino acid peptide that activates the erythropoietin receptor. Two molecules of the peptide dimerize the receptor's extracellular domain.
