The Growth Industry

Article Abstract:

Taking care of the lawn used to mean hiring a teenager to mow once a week. But now, lawn care services who provide fertilizer and pesticide treatments are springing up all across the country. Two income families are finding they have little time for lawn care, and high volume business can mean low prices for customers. Also, suburbanite homeowners, who provide the primary source of business for the lawn care services, are very conscious of the appearance of their lawns, and are willing to pay to maintain that appearance. One company feels the industry has lots of room for growth, as only ten percent of the potential market now uses the services of a lawn care company.

Settling the suburban frontier

Article Abstract:

Bucksbaum and Karl changed the face of American by creating the shopping mall, the new downtown, and by making housing through mortgage insurance accessible. Bucksbaum's malls are not tributes to architectural design, but they are convenient. Karl might be called the Father of suburban sprawl.
