Eye off the ball

Article Abstract:

An overview of the way football damages and injures the bodies of its participants is presented. A survey conducted amongst former football players revealed that 62.5 percent had got atleast one concussion, the average was two concussion and a quarter suffered three or more concussions in addition to 38 percent of ex-players suffering from osteodegenerative arthritis.

Ornithologist Richard Buchholz discovered that the unfeathered heads of turkeys play a role in body-temperature regulation rather than sexual selection. He conducted his research by covering the turkeys' heads with socks to simulate the effects of feathers.

Silence of the genes: a new view posits evolution in terms of static reduction in DNA

Article Abstract:

University of Edinburgh professor Adrian P. Bird has suggested that evolution is driven by mechanisms which allow for better signal-to-noise ratio in DNA processing. However, Bird himself admits that his theory may yet be disproven.
