Factors affecting foreign R&D location decisions: management and host policy implications

Article Abstract:

The factors affecting foreign R&D location decisions, which are of vital importance to technology managers and potential host countries, are studied. It was found that firms locate foreign R&D capabilities in the primary markets for the products produced by their overseas affiliate and value the availability of highly qualified staffs in their overseas operations and do not consider cost as an important factor driving location decisions.

Knowledge production of firms: Research networks and the 'scientification' of business R&D

Article Abstract:

An analysis on why the R&D performing firms are becoming more like the academic firms inspite of limited participation and scientification in research networks is done. It is concluded that the non-cyclical growth of university research increases the stability of the performance of advanced and knowledge based economies and societies.
