Follow the mercury

Article Abstract:

Canadian and United States scientists will begin an experiment in which they will add mercury to a Canadian lake to see what will happen to fish if the atmospheric deposition of mercury increases. The experiment will be conducted around the Experimental Lakes Area of northwestern Ontario, a region with low atmospheric deposition. Mercury, which enters a majority of ecosystems through atmospheric deposition, is a neurotoxin that has proven to be dangerous to humans, especially growing children, and is the most frequent cause of fish advisories in North America.

Green chemistry: Progress and challenges

Article Abstract:

Green chemistry practices are on the rise, replacing traditional methods of pollute-and-clean-up with methods that preclude water, solid waste, and air pollution at the outset. Governmental and Industrial interests, core educational opportunities, and future challenges facing the field of green chemistry are discussed, among other green chemistry topics.
