Genome databases worry about yeast (and other) infections

Article Abstract:

French laboratory Genethon presented to UNESCO a database of 2000 mapped DNA sequences of the human genome that was later discovered to be contaminated by cDNA from bacteria or yeast. This embarrassment brings up the question of quality control in electronically submitted DNA databases.

Genome shortcut leads to problems

Article Abstract:

The Human Genome Project and other gene-mapping projects put much faith and multi-million dollar grants into extra-large yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs) that carried the entire human genome. The YACS were found to have DNA sequences scrambled, deleted or spliced together.
