The shape of things to come

Article Abstract:

Rapid prototyping is widely used for designing engineering products. The required prototype of a product enables a reduction of 90% of the time required to design and manufacture a new product. Rapid prototyping involves the use of high resolution computer-aided designs of products and the use of high speed computers. Most products are manufactured after a 3D simulation of its image on a computer screen. This enables the correction of defects and increases the speed of design of the product.

Time will tell

Article Abstract:

Recent events have shown how precarious the UK's energy supply is. The Braer oil spill demonstrated one of oil's shortcomings, and new figures suggest coal subsidies devastate the gas industry. Nuclear power has improved, but will probably succeed only on the failings of its competition. Combined cycle gas turbine plants promise to reduce coal consumption by 30 million tonnes, and wind power could generate up to 20% of the nation's power needs.
