The Theory Group of Microsoft Research has played a huge role in re-creating the rarefied world of a top university department by bringing 20 mathematicians and computer scientists together. This group led by Jennifer Chayes and Christian Borgs explores mathematics, computational theory and physics that might provide conceptual framework for critical advances in software and networking.
