Great transitions

Article Abstract:

The Carnegie Corp's 'Great Transitions' document, released in Oct 1995, recommends that parents increase time spent with their children and with their children's teachers. It also suggests that the life sciences curricula be matched to the needs and interests of adolescents.

Expanding the uses of enzymes

Article Abstract:

Enzymes obtained from many microorganisms could produce useful products, and enzymes can be used to convert food-processing wastes into better products. Enzyme use studies were presented at the Biotechnology Byproducts Consortium at the University of Iowa.

Improvements in health care

Article Abstract:

Reducing the price of pharmaceuticals is one means to reduce the cost of health care. However, too much emphasis on this reduction will harm small biotechnological companies and impede pharmaceutical research.
