HERA physicists finally put flesh on a putative particle

Article Abstract:

HERA accelerator scientists believe they have identified the pomeron, a theoretical particle or particle state believed to enable one proton in a two-proton collision to escape unharmed. The scientists believe the pomeron is composed of point-like particles with a measurable distribution.

To catch a WIMP

Article Abstract:

Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) comprise the latest, most exotic theory of dark matter, the term for the undetected mass of the universe. Labs around the world are building detectors to find WIMPs, a difficult task since in theory they do not interact with other particles.

Ungraded LEP bags first W pairs

Article Abstract:

Physicists at the upgraded LEP collider have been producing pairs of W particles daily since they created the first W pair on Jul 10, 1996. Hopes for the future include the discovery of the Higgs particle and proof of supersymmetry.
