Holding court

Article Abstract:

The Thomas F. Eagleton Federal Courthouse in Saint Louis, MO, displays the creative and efficient placement of 32-feet-tall columns in the 29-story building. The structure will house all of the federal courts in southern Illinois and eastern Missouri. The 1 million square feet facility will also serve as the government's headquarters in Saint Louis. Curing the steel pipes eliminated problems in steel pipe installation and concrete filling.

Taking the lead

Article Abstract:

The $74-million Wayne L. Morse United States Courthouse was built through the initative of the Design Excellence Program of the General Services Administration. The courthouse has space for 11 tenants that serve the District of Oregon. The designers shaped each courtroom like a waterdrop and the pavilion forms do not break at 90-degree angles to articulate the curving courtrooms.

Instrumental approach

Article Abstract:

Expansion of the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in Toronto, Canada involved the construction of a residual management facility while ensuring the continued operation of the filtration plant. The art deco architecture of the facility, which was built between 1934 and 1937, had to be preserved in the construction process.
