Holding the advantage

Article Abstract:

Small engineering firms face a number of business pressures constantly including competing against larger rivals for qualified job candidates. Although larger engineering companies can attract candidates with numerous benefits including the prestige of working for a large, recognized firm, their smaller rivals have their own unique, distinct advantages which the larger players may not possess. For instance, small engineering companies are excellent training grounds for fledgling engineers.

Desalination facility to deliver cheapest water yet

Article Abstract:

A consortium led by Boston, MA-based Stone and Webster plans to design and construct a new, 25-mgd saltwater conversion facility in Tampa Bay, FL. Their objective is to deliver the cheapest desalinated water in the world which will cost only $1.71 per thousand gallons for the first year. Over the life of the contract, cost will average at $2.08 for every thousand gallons. The low price is attributed largely to Florida's low power cost.
