Environmental and consumer groups oppose the Food and Drug Administration's May 1992 decision to regulate genetically-engineered foods as if they were conventional foods. Critics of the decision claim that consumers have a right to know what is in the food they buy.

Dam safety; does record flooding threaten the Aswan High Dam?

Article Abstract:

The occurrence of earthquakes, heavy downpour and faulty engineering has hightened the threat of the Aswan High Dam's failure. After enduring a 5.3 seismology magnitude in 1981, the dam has been subjected to engineering evaluations for the damages it sustained.

Setting the pace: Volvo, safety, and the environment

Volvo has been able to gain a favorable reputation by taking safety and environmental concerns into consideration when designing its automobiles. Volvo is researching side-impact air bags and is developing environmentally compatible cars.
