Industrial relations

Article Abstract:

The competitive position of the UK engineering industry has strengthened dramatically since World War II, with most growth being seen during the years of the Conservative government, beginning in 1979. Prior to this date, the engineering sector's position was weakened by the rise of the newly industrialised countries, such as Japan, the slowdown in the world economy and rising oil prices. UK players have been forced to refocus on core businesses and to undertake organisational changes in order to integrate into the world market.

Industrial thermography

Article Abstract:

Thermography is an effective technique to detect faults in industrial plants at an early stage to prevent serious losses and take remedial measures. On-line thermographic monitoring of industrial processes involves the analysis of temperature difference patterns, which are sensitive to industrial processes. The initial set of measurements obtained, when the plant is in good condition, are used as base-lines. The level of temperature change during investigation acts as an indicator of severity.

Industrial fibres

Article Abstract:

Industrial fibers such as polyester, nylon and polypropylene are seeing increased applications in various industries. Fibers offer benefits such as improved strength, chemical resistance, elasticity and uniformity. Applications include the use of aramid fibers in the ThrusttSCC which became the first automobile to break the sound barrier, geotextiles for pavement construction and industrial textiles for trains and marine transportation.
