Innovation in the context of European R&D collaborative programmes: the case of multimedia and the newspaper industry

Article Abstract:

Project NewsPad is a European Strategic Program for Research in Information Technology program to address the challenge posed by multimedia technology to the newspaper sector. Its aim is to develop a pilot multimedia newspaper and examine the processes involved in creating a sociotechnical constituency. Its participants include Spain's Institut Catala de Technologia and El Periodico de Catalunya , CARAT Expert of France, the UK's Acorn Computers Ltd., and Archimedes Ltd. of Greece.

Success potential of international R&D co-operations

Article Abstract:

A study conducted to evaluate the nature of international research and development cooperation showed that such cooperative ventures are driven by short-term goals, as manifested by the values derived from cost considerations. This shows that international cooperative ventures in research and development has not reached its desired potential of providing long-term benefits to participating parties, as well as their supporting governments.

Competitive strategies in the microprocessor industry: the case of an emerging versus an established technology

Article Abstract:

The competition between reduced instruction set computers and complex instruction set computers illustrates the method in which an emerging technology can seize market share from an established competitor. An analysis of the strategies used by the companies involved is given.
