Integration of microstructural development and properties design into the CAD/CAM environment

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the growth and control of the microstructure and properties within a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system is given. A mathematical model is used to forecast the microstructure and properties from the material processing used and the material composition. The material studied is a specially hardened Al-Li-Zr alloy from the Aluminum Company of America. The particle size, distribution, the free zone width, the critical resolved shear strength and yield strength were all computed by using the model.

Strain-hardening and thermal-softening effects on shear angle prediction: new model development and validation

Article Abstract:

A study of the influence of thermal-softening and strain-hardening on shear angle and shear stress in orthogonal machining shows that the effects of temperature on strain hardening correlates to the shear angle, lessens the number of coefficients determined experimentally and enhances the accuracy of share angle estimation. The quantitative correlation coupled to an energy type method and force based process model results in a new model whose statistical analysis demonstrates its efficiency and accuracy.

Effect of laser shock processing (LSP) on the fatigue resistance of an aluminum alloy

Article Abstract:

Results show that Laser Shock Processing (LSP) improves the fatigue life of the aluminum alloy 2024T62 with 4.5-9.8 times higher than that of unshocked specimens. Data further indicate that LSP influences surface hardness, microstructure, and fracture section of the specimens as well.
