International body moves forward on controlling greenhouse gas emissions

Article Abstract:

Delegates to the Second Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change have agreed to require future international treaties on global climate change to include legally binding targets for projects designed to reduce climate change gases. In the conference document, the Geneva Declaration, participants cited the need tougher binding language to achieve greater emissions reductions. However, they failed to indicate specific targets or timetables when the emissions reductions should take effect. The next conference will be held in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997.

Emissions comparisons from alternative fuel buses and diesel buses with a chassis dynamometer testing facility

Article Abstract:

Ethanol, methanol and natural gas, when used as fuel substitutes, are effective in reducing vehicle emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. The combustion temperature appears to be significant to the formation of nitrogen oxides, but particulate matter formation appears to depend on the composition and molecular structure of the fuel.
