Investigation into tangential force and axial stress effects on fretting fatigue behavior

Article Abstract:

Fretting fatigue behavior of titanium alloy is investigated using a dual actuator test setup, which is capable to apply the pad displacement independents of the applied cyclic load on specimen. Fretting fatigue tests are conducted using this setup with a phase difference between cyclic load on the specimen and tangential force on the fretting pad with cylinder-on-flat contact configuration under partial slip condition.

Tensile deformation and rotating bending fatigue properties of a highelastic thin wire, a superelastic thin wire, and superelastic thin tube of NiTi alloys

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the basic tensile deformation and rotating-bending fatigue properties for the highelastic thin wire FHP-NT, the superelastic thin wire SE-NT and the superelastic tube NT-Tube, all fabricated from NiTi alloys. The modulus of elasticity for the initial loading stage of both the highelastic wire and the super elastic tube is low.

Using a dovetail fixture to study fretting fatigue and fretting palliatives

Article Abstract:

Fretting fatigue is type of damage that occurs in regions of contact between two parts such as the dovetail region in the blade/disc joint in a gas turbine engine. A dovetail fixture is developed so that cyclic normal and tangential loads could be applied to the specimen and a demonstration that cracks, cold initiate and propagate in the specimen is presented.
