The complex task of transcribing a gene is complicated further in cells where DNA is organized into chromatin. These cells must recruit proteins that can alleviate nucleosome-mediated repression of transcription. Researchers have identified a protein complex named RSF (remodeling and spacing factor) that aids transcription initiation on chromatin templates in vitro.
