Kinetics of carbon dioxide formation from the oxidation of phenols in supercritical water

Article Abstract:

Two representative organic pollutants, phenol and 2-chlorophenol, were subjected to a kinetics study for carbon dioxide (CO2) formation during their exposure to supercritical water oxidation. The resulting flow rate from the oxidation experiments of the vapor and liquid phases were measured by gas and liquid chromatography, respectively. Results indicate that incomplete oxidation was present for both phenolic compounds since conversion of the organic carbon to CO2 was always less than the conversion of phenol.

Effect of hydrochloric acid on sampling and analysis of semivolatile organic compounds in incineration flue gas. 4. polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that hydrochloric acid at concentrations of 0.17-5.53 mg/L in incineration flue gas does not hinder the recoveries of tetrachloro to octachloro congeners of semivolatile organic compounds such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). Polysterene or XAD-2 of a modified method 5 (MM5) train yielded mean recoveries of PCDDs and PCDFs at 87 to 114% with relative standard deviations of 5 to 15 %.

Flash photolysis/high-performance liquid chromatography method for studying the sequence of photochemical reactions: direct photolysis of phenol

Article Abstract:

The photodegradation of phenol and p-benzoquinone in undegassed aqueous solution are investigated using flash photolysis followed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Irradiation experiments involving the variation of the number of flashes on the photochemical reaction were carried out. It was found that alkaline solutions were more efficient in photochemically removing phenols than neutral and acidic ones.
