Kinetics of the alkaline hydrolysis of important nitroaromatic co-contaminants of 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene in highly contaminated soils

Article Abstract:

Researchers investigated alkaline hydrolysis as a way to remediate soil contaminated with TNT, or 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene. Alkaline hydrolysis would be a difficult method of soil cleanup when nitroaromatics other than TNT are present in large quantities. However, the process would be an excellent remediation technology when TNT is the only contaminant, or when TNT exists with low quantities of other nitroaromatics.
