Large-Scale Sprouting of Cortical Connections After Peripheral Injury in Adult Macaque Monkeys

Article Abstract:

Monkeys who sustained forelimb injuries were studied to see how the somatosensory cortex reacts to change. Lateral connections in the somatosensory cortex may suggest intracortical sprouting. The research has bearing on the damage to the central nervous system, phantom limb and, perhaps, phantom pain syndrome. Future research into the mechanisms of intracortical is needed.

Effect of scale on the food web structure

Article Abstract:

An analysis of 50 food webs suggests that fractions of species and links are scale-dependent, a finding that contradicts the conventional hypothesis that the seven food web properties are 'scale-invariant.' Evidence supporting each view is evaluated.
