Article Abstract:

Loons, a variety of bird thriving in the wilderness of northern Canada, serves as a natural indicator of the region's ecosystem. The existence of these birds, which are believed to be capable of restoring the sight of blind people, denotes the level of lead and toxin present in the environment.

Hi-tech hawks

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Wildlife Service and US Forest Service have initiated a satellite program to track down the exact migration course of Swainson's hawks and also determine why its population has continued to decline. The program utilized state-of-the-art satellite tracking.

The sound of silence: when it comes to aquatic ecosystems, bullfrogs and other amphibians are 'canaries in the coal mine'

Article Abstract:

The decline in population of many frog and amphibian species is an indication of the relative pollution of many aquatic habitats. Bullfrogs in eastern Ontario have been reported by many residents as having decreased their mating calls and appearances.
