Kinetics of halogenated organic compound degradation by iron metal

Article Abstract:

The dehalogenation of organic compounds using iron metal was investigated by measuring the kinetics of the degradation process and evaluating kinetic data using a consistent kinetic model. The results revealed that degradation rates were affected by experimental conditions. Correlation analysis showed a more rapid dechlorination at saturated carbon centers than at unsaturated carbons. Higher degrees of halogenation also resulted in the significant reduction of the compounds.

Kinetics of carbon tetrachloride reduction at an oxide-free iron electrode

Article Abstract:

The mechanism by which carbon tetrachloride is reduced at an oxide-free iron electrode appears to be influenced by the reaction at the metal-water interface and not by transport to the metal surface. Results from the carbon tetrachloride examined in pH 8.4 borate buffer indicated that variations in the first-order heterogenous rate constant for the chemical reaction cause the wide range of dechlorination rates that have been identified for batch and column conditions.
